A fine first flush Darjeeling - 2008 season. This tea is grown from the original China seed, planted in the 1850's.
It has a pale green tippy leaf.
Unlike most early First Flush which are astringent, this Darjeeling has an unusually smooth, refreshing and delicate flavour.

This tea should make an excellent iced tea, especially in soft water.

Assam Autumnal (SATRUPA) FTGFOP.1
*(Tippy, Golden.Flowery. Orange Pekoe. Grade 1)

During the Opium wars (around 1839) which stopped Britain and China trading in tea, the British became worried about the supply of their beloved beverage and searched for new regions to grow it themselves. One region that took well to the plant was Assam in north east India. It was later discovered that a variant of Camellia sinensis (tea), was growing wild in Assam already and today both variants are manufactured side by side and carefully cross pollinated to get the very best leaf for strength, flavour and character.

This is a very special tea manufactured during the Autumnal period. The leaf is large and well made showing an abundance of tip. The liquor is bright and full with a distinctive malty character. A tea of great quality!!

JAPAN Green Sencha Fukujyu x 100g
Japanese teas are not only delicious to drink a delight to behold! Fukuja tea is made by picking the leaf buds early in the season, steamed, rolled and fired into needle shaped leaves. Sweet and slightly scented, this is one of Japan’s favourite teas. Rich in vitamin C is and other natural compounds, this is a very healthy tea. Drink without milk.

*GRADES:
There are 2 main grades – leaf (or Pekoe) and broken. Pekoe is a corruption of the old Chinese word describing the downy white hairs on the back of a young leaf or bud. A leaf or Pekoe grade is virtually a whole leaf and the largest is ‘orange pekoe’ with ‘orange’ having nothing to do with flavour, but more probably signifying ‘royal’ from the reference the Dutch House of Orange (the Dutch were the first to ship fine teas into Europe). Broken pekoe grades range from the largest pieces of ‘broken orange pekoe’ to the very fine ‘pekoe fannings’ or ‘dust’. We at Botham’s only offer the finest, full leaf ‘pekoe’ or ‘broken orange pekoe’ in our loose tea selection.
